so this is a Make it Monday post and the guest room makeover post. of course i had to rush the project a little since we had the old birthday party this weekend, but i'm kind of glad. i have been known to leave a project unfinished. just once or twice though.
so here is the finished project...
here was the before picture:
there is SO much more room now that the sleigh bed is gone. our bedrooms aren't tiny, but they aren't big so we have to be smart about our furniture choices. and having a sleigh bed in there wasn't smart. so we sold it and i had 300.00 to re-do this room. that was it. and i'm proud to say that i only went 30 something dollars over budget . more on that later, but the biggest part of the savings came from making the headboard thanks to the idea from http://pinkwallpaper.blogspot.com/
i made this headboard with:
- wood
- foam
- batting
- fabric
- staple gunthat's all it took. i have the step by step instructions if you are interested, but everything {fabric included} was less than 50.00 for this queen size headboard. and it looks awesome. this fabric is a knock off of a lulu dk print that i love, but it's pricey. so your fabric cost is important. anyway, here's a tour of the details...
there you have it. so here's the breakdown for the cost:
headboard - see above 50.00
paint - restoration hardware silver sage 32.00 {thank goodness we only needed one gallon}
silk shams - restoration hardware 70.00 {and that is with 50% off too. they were expensive but worth it}
brown quilt - stein mart 39.00
bedskirt - 34.00
frames - 11.00 {had all but 2 of the frames already. i always buy random frames i like when i see them on clearance for this very reason. you'll need them someday}
side table - 43.00 {okay this was a real find. it was in the clearance section of a furniture store. but i took me several weeks to find it. you just gotta keep looking till you find what you want}
lamp - homegoods 29.00
throw pillows - homegoods 24.99 {for both}
red vase - homegoods 3.00
{i had the club chair in the corner...had the bamboo shades...had the sheets. had the books on the side table, just covered them with scrapbook paper}
so there you have it. this room has become one of my favorite in the house. now i'm looking around to see what else i can sell to re-do other rooms. this makes harold nervous ;)
happy monday. georgia is waking and we're off to the pool. love from bham...
