our 'temporary' space

remember me talking a few months ago about getting built-ins done??? well they were finished long ago but it has taken me a while to finish the living room. {well not completely finished yet, but anyway} so anyway, our yard sale & craigslist helped us get rid of several things that no longer worked for us. here is our living room before...

you actually see more of the dining room in that picture above, but i wanted you to notice the space beside the fireplace where the chair and lamp are. it was these spaces that we used to make our living room waaayy more user friendly...

here's the other side...

and though there is nothing really wrong with the way it was, we needed more floor space for georgia...a place for our books....a place for our computer...AND much less 'darkness'. much of what we had was sooo dark. dark wood. dark iron. dark shades. dark dark dark. and ya'll know how i feel about dark {light has no fellowship with darkness ephesians 5:11}
so here is the new, lighter version...

ahhhh. now doesn't that just feel better. phew. and way less 'stuffy'. and dark. did i say i'm so not into dark. okay good.

i love the new space. i still have to make the window treatments and our dining room isn't done yet, but who cares. i'm loving the progress thus far...

having the computer in the living room makes it so much easier to work/check email/whatever and still all be together. and our little family of 3 is very much into being together. a big ole' house would do us no good because we'd all be crammed into the same space all the time anyway....

the top shelf of the desk area was the perfect place for my etsy print i showed you last month. and the other bookcase is perfect for all our books...

and for georgia's books too. i'm not big on 'stuff' on bookshelves. i kinda think bookshelves are for books, but i changed my mind {just a tad} and managed to fit some very special pictures among the books...

and one of my favorite things is the old chest that i bought several years ago at a yardsale for 10.00 that i now use as a toy chest for jojo. it fits perfectly in the hearth of the fireplace...

and speaking of jojo...she needed somewhere to do her 17 month old stuff so i found this end table {i think} at a thrift store for 6.00. the chairs i got from a neighbor. as you'll see it's not quite as fun as it should be...

but with a little paint & fabric it turned out to be a perfect little area. well. perfect until she decided to start coloring on the wall rather than her coloring book. but in a way that is perfectly fine too.

so there you go. sorry it took so long to get the pictures up. i had to stop halfway through the process and take a break to refocus. i was starting to think and act as if this house was my home. and i was giving way too much attention to it. but thank goodness for the heavy hand that reminds me that this place is NOT my home.

"But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ"
Philippians 3:20

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal."
Matthew 6:19-20

have a good week. love from us all.
