city mouse, country mouse

we live in birmingham.  the big city.  where animal control patrols the streets.  where our children are told not to talk to strangers.  where everything is convienent.  where everything is...complicated.  funny how a trip to the outskirts of town remind me of that.

yesterday we traveled to the 'country'.  really it's just a neighboring town but it's considered the country.  and it fits the stereotypical bill.  it also is a breath a fresh air.  there's things that happen in the country that don't get to happen here.  here's what i'm talking about...

this is oreo.  he's a 2 week old lamb.  his family is being raised by the preacher's family and most days, just like yesterday when we saw him, he is roaming around the church waiting for somebody to bottle feed him.  even if it's little people.

2-10 010

and those same little people are free to run the halls of the church.  worry free.  cuz the church is the place to be free.  no one is telling them to behave.  or settle down.  or be careful not to bump the walls...

and sunday school rooms are filled with things ready to be played it.  not shut up tight to keep the supplies straight and the room clean....

 2-10 020

and there are REAL beauty salons.  ones that have the same customers AND curtains for 25 years.  ones where it takes 4 weeks to get a another nail appointment should you miss yours.  you know what i'm talkin' about.  the real deal...

2-10 047

where they call you AND your toddler baby.  and they would never think to ask you first before they give the baby some chips or candy.  where they never think to ask if you need help figuring out what do do with the babys hair.  they just tell you what to do.

2-10 061

where everyone in the salon wants glitter and flowers painted on their nails.  not just children.  where a classic nude polish is NO where to be found because who in the world wears nude polish...

2-10 073

the city is good.  the country is good.  same but so different.  if we ever have a second home i wanna live in the country.  georgia and i already got the boots...
